Drawing for Animation - 'Off the Scale' Group Project

In the 'Off the Scale' project we explored the work of Heinrich Kley, a political artist who's work inspired Walt Disney. Kley explored surreal worlds and he focused on the idea of scale and how it can effect the scene. For this group project we had to create a world that was out of scale, using sketches we had already created and expanding on these still life studies/characters.

In my group we had explored creating characters out of fruit and animals. Originally we were going to focus on just one of the objects, however after talking it through we thought it would be quite cool to try creating a story with both of them. In the end we settled on large fruit and small insects, as it was realistic and it would be interesting to make the story from the insects' P.O.V.

After meeting up again we assigned jobs for each member of the group. I was given 'character designer' as I already had some fruit character sketches, however they were more 'goofy' and 'fun' than the other members' drawings. In spite of that, we decided as a group it would be quite interesting to have the fruit fun and silly when the humans see them, but terrifying and moldy and gruesome when the insects see them. Or it could be that the fruit turn from fun to disgusting as a plot point.

Concept: Kitchen where fruit rule and insects try and scavenge for food.
