Motion Studies - Walk Cycle Side View
Here's the whole process of my walk cycle (side view version) for my Motion Studies class. It's safe to say this task was a struggle!
This is my first test, which I did in class. I don't know why but I really struggled to get started on this task. I ended up doing lots of tests because I was so unsure about the timing and movement. I find timing animations to be the hardest, the drawing aspect is fine for me. Here I just tested how the feet move with equal distances apart.
After doing a few tests, I went back into TVPaint and tried to make a cycle with a whole figure. I wanted to keep the figure quite simple, so I used circles to represent the body. However, this style didn't allow me to show the fluidity and movement I really wanted. The cycle needs to be of an angry figure, shown through movement, and the 'blobs' didn't really show a angry figure.
So, I changed to a style that let me squash and stretch the legs, arms and body. I referenced this style from the Richard Williams book 'The Animation Survival Kit' (aka the Animation Bible), and used the section on walks to help me get the postures and timing right.
After that I just added shading and the rest of the body. I struggled with how the body moved along with the walk, but I think it looks alright. In the end, I'm pleased how this turned out. I know it still needs a lot of work, but it's a bit improvement from my first test.
